THIS is "Tama"... Ch. Hoka-Hey's Tribal Song, CGC! Tama is without a doubt one of
the most special of our dogs! Not only is he a beautiful black brindle pinto
with the most gorgeous head we've ever seen, but he is also the most
affectionate, loving dog on earth. He's even wonderful with other dogs, and
though a constant companion to his dam, Cheyenne,
he always shows a touching fondness for his dad, Joey.
Tama has been special to us since the day he was born, and we knew great
things were in store for him. He finished his championship with numerous
Breed wins from the classes, some over top ten ranked dogs, and while we
were happy for him to be our house pet after that, bigger things were in
store for our Tama.
On January 8th, 2000, in Paris, France, the "American Akita" enjoyed their debut at FCI shows in Europe. Up to that time they had been
disqualified because they did not fit the "Japanese Akita" standard. As of 2000, they are a separate
breed, have their own Standard and have been welcomed back to the show
ring. We decided to let Tama make
his presence known at that historical Paris show with 4,200 dogs entered.
Not only did Tama win the Breed, he won the Group as well, and now is
forever a part of the history of the Breed Split and the new American Akita. He is the first FCI
"American Akita" Breed winner, the first Group winner, the first
BEST IN SHOW winner, the first FCI
"American Akita" champion, the first American Akita to be voted
"Top Show Dog Of The Year" after winning another Best In Show at
the prestigious, invitation-only Champion of Champions show... and many
more honors including winning the "Japanese Breed Specialty" at
the World Show in Milan, judged by the highly respected Dr. Sophia
Kaluzniacki. Tama will stay in France with new owner/handler/#1 fan,
Katharina Round, and hopefully he will continue to be the great ambassador
for our Breed that he has always been. Whatever he does, we will be as
proud of this boy as we were at his very first show, which by the way, he
also won!
Tama
- OFA Good
Sadly, despite his good looks and winning ways, Tama’s bloodline
was not one we chose to pursue or develop or use in any way. His mother
“Cheyenne”
died of VKH at the age of nine, and his father was later realized to be an S.A.
carrier. Both of these are
horrendous auto immune diseases. We’d never bred Tama, and we spayed
his half sister, Rapture, who was our only other genetic link to Cheyenne.
