And here she is, our most beautiful
"Ramona"...Hoka-Hey's Spice Girl. Ramona is the result of
our first inbreeding; "Scarlet" bred to her son,
"Comanche". Inbreeding is something we waited 12 years to do. We
were at the point of consistently producing healthy, sound dogs and we
wanted to lock in some traits that seem especially hard to find (like good
fronts and shoulders, short backs, low set hocks, correct ears, etc.), as
well as needing to know if there were problems lurking in the background.
When our inbreeding produced Ramona, we were obviously thrilled! She
is everything we have ever wanted; typey, tons of substance and bone, sound
as can be, lustrous stand-off black brindle coat, and the temperament
of a baby angel!
Ramona is our most
adorable and beloved companion, and is such an integral part of our
day-to-day family life that we hated disrupting it by taking her out and
showing her! But, eventually we decided it was something we really
should do, and since our work schedules usually do not allow for long
weekends and extensive travel, we sent her with the incomparable Beep and Shari Lee. As we had hoped and anticipated, Ramona consistently
won with them, even collecting two Best Of Breeds from the classes!
She came back home with thirteen points, but the majors broke every time,
and once we got her back, we kind of lost interest in sending her away
again!
Although Ramona is one of our greatest
accomplishments as breeders, she was only bred one time, because more than
anything else, she is our cherished friend.
Her beauty, type, overall quality, health and amazing temperament
are all things we will continue to strive to produce in any litter we
breed, but there could never be another Ramona!
Ramona is OFA Excellent!
