A
picture is worth a thousand words, and that's how we feel about Ochoco. No one could be more proud of
this big boy. He represents the fifth generation of our breeding program,
and the fifth generation of progressive excellence. It just doesn’t
get much better than Ochoco. He is the son of Cherokee and Comanche, and we
knew he was very Special from the beginning! It's pretty
obvious that Ochoco has incredible type, bone and substance, as well as a
magnificent harsh, stand-off brindle coat, but what you can't see in a
photo is the happy, friendly, lovable boy that you meet in person. Or can
you? And can you see how sound and well built he is? How he moves with such effortless pride,
and obvious purpose?
Ochoco is everything we strive for, and his short trip to England in 2004
resulted in 2 quick CCs and a Group 1 before he was brought home earlier
than originally planned. We were proud as always, and happy to have him
home.
One of the most consistent comments we have received from judges about
Ochoco is that he is everything the Akita breed needs so badly right now.
We take that as a tremendous compliment, and validation of over twenty
years of slow, careful and selective breeding. Ochoco is a Group
winner and placer, but never really enjoyed performing in the ring. He doesn’t have a
‘reason’ and doesn’t buy into treats as incentives.
He’s a very smart boy!
He’s much more interested in the family side of things, and
has proven his value as the sire of a rising number of champions with VERY
limited breedings.
We are SO thrilled to have brought 6
beautiful Ochoco puppies into this world in March via frozen semen; the dam
is our beautiful Sheva. This was the first time we’ve had a girl of
our own with a pedigree we think is appropriate to combine with this big
beautiful boy, but it won’t be the last! The puppies were phenomenal, including
our “Spencer” who will do his daddy proud! Us too!
