This is our Ch. O'BJ Gr River's Match-Maker.  We just call her "Matchi"!  Born in 1987 and bred by Nadene Fontano, she was our first champion, our first Akita mom (loving and devoted mother of four champions from two litters) and is the foundation for all our success.  Matchi is a Widow-Maker daughter and her mother is a Sachmo granddaughter, giving her an enviable Sachmo-dominated pedigree. She's a big, strong, athletic girl, and continues to be the light of our lives.  Matchi has never met a stranger; she loves everyone, especially children.
She is pictured above at 8 years old, winning her placement in the Veteran Class (the only time ever shown in that class) at the 1995 Akita National Specialty in Chicago. Her early show career to complete her championship was so quick it was almost over almost before it started. She won her first show, the Portland Bench show, at the age of 11 months, and two big majors at her next two shows the following month, each time beating the boys with a BOW and a BOW/BOS. She won the Brood bitch class at 4 years of age at the Cascade Akita Club Regional Specialty; the only time ever shown in that class.
Despite her early championship, Matchi continued to 'attend' dog shows with me, regardless of the fact that I was showing somebody else. She just loved to go!  She had fans everywhere and she wanted to see them!
My best friend through everything these years have had to offer, good and bad, I can't imagine life without Matchi by my side - as she will always be. Matchi, you are my heart and soul.

Matchi is OFA Excellent!
