The Akita is a very
special breed of dog to us. After two years of research, our first
dog was actually a magnificent rescue Akita named
"Shiro" - adopted from ARSA through Barbara Bouyet in
1987. Over the next few years we bought two puppies from the finest
show dogs we could find, hoping to form the foundation of "Hoka-Hey
Akitas". Although it
wasn’t quite that easy, our commitment ever since has been to protect
the breed, to educate people about the positive and negative aspects
of Akita ownership, and to breed only when we were convinced we would be
improving on already superior parents - without exploiting them. Our determination
not to exploit our dogs includes not breeding females too often, too young,
or too late in life. It means we don’t breed a litter for money
– we breed for ourselves – for our next generation. We then carefully place the littermates
in loving, intensely screened, family homes.
Our breedings have consistently produced better
dogs with each generation, which to us is the only justification for
breeding. From a very limited number of litters in the past 25 years,
we have produced two BIS Akitas,
the top (and most titled) Akita in Europe, the only BIS Akita
bitch in Germany, many AKC, Canadian
and European champions, Best of Breed winners, Specialty winners, Group
winners and placers, ROMs and Obedience and even Agility titled dogs…
and always requiring hip (OFA Good or Excellent only) and eye
clearances in all breedings.
Come and meet some of the Hoka-Hey Akitas, and learn more about the breed
in general. If you have any questions I haven't covered, please email
me. So happy you could visit and hope you enjoyed yourself.
Please come again!
